How to Organize & Manage the HD forum

Post by Bushman »

First there is some required reading before asking questions.
*New distillers reading lounge
*Safety & related issues
Links to both of these forums has been organized by one of our members "Cranky" and can be found here:
For New & Novice Distillers

There is a lot of information and it is easy to overload so I would suggest you cut it down into manageable information by focusing on one thing at a time.

How to organize your information:
*Creating a folder to organize information
*Bookmarking info so you can readily find it again.
How to bookmark:
At the bottom of each thread there is a tab named bookmark, click on this and it saves it in your controls panel.
You access it at the top left side of the page named "user control panel" click then choose "manage bookmarks"

How to search:
*Use the HD Google search
Here's how to use HD Google Search (at the top of the page) to further your adventure:

*Use the advanced search at the top right of the page

After you have searched then ask questions this will help you frame the question so your more apt to ask the question in a way you get the response you are looking for.

Good advice Bushman. I would add that you can also search within individual forum sections. This can help to further narrow a search. I can't say where exactly to find the section search function - I don't use the default screen style (prosilver). I use "subsilver2". The location of some things differs depending on which of those screen styles you use.

Edit: The forum search function is located at the top of the topic listing if you are using "prosilver" (the default) and at the bottom of the display if using "subsilver2".
Every new member should read this before doing anything else:

Great advise Bushman
I found the bookmarks to help tremendously and also to take notes that you could refer to later.
Not much different then when we had to study and learn a subject in school.

I use OneNote constantly to stash peals of wisdom and links to them, plus ferment notes, recipe notes and cheap equipment deals. It's synced across all of your computers and phones and tablets and has saved my ass many times when I find myself at Home Depot remembering about half of what I went there for. It's also free.
