Dry Yeast shelf life

Post by WIZz »

I have a 1 pound foil pack of red star DADY It has never been opened, I brought it about 3 to 3 1/2 years ago and it's been sitting in the cupboard since, could I still use it?

Course you could :)

Whether it will work - depends - But what's to lose by giving it a try ?

Yeah, I'd test it.
Or just go buy another pound for a couple dollars and not worry.

If only it was that simple!

I'm in Australia and it's not available here, I have to get it shipped from the US and the cheapest I can get it for is $34.50US about $45AU.

Try to make a starter out of some and report back how you get on.

I rechecked the date and the yeast has been sitting in my cupboard for 4 years.

Good news is it's alive!!

According to the link the yeast should not be very good.
Don't believe everything you read!
