Best Coupling?

Postby stiller30 » Wed Apr 04, 2012 12:30 pm

Hey guys,
I use a pressure cooker and come out of the top with flexible 1/4" copper for my condenser (Liebig). I am looking to redesign my set-up and want to come out of the top of the pressure cooker with rigid copper and 90 over and connect my condenser there. What would be my best option for a quick-release coupling? I currently have a pressure coupling but this is surely not the best way to go.

@ stiller30,

Welcome to the Forum.

Suggest performing Home Distiller Forum research on the topic ‘Pressure Cooker’ and you will come to the conclusion that a Pressure Cooker is a poor choice for a home hobby Still boiler.

When researching in the Home Distiller Forum suggest using the ‘HD Google Search’ function located on the top of each Forum page.

Suggest visiting the “Must Read” New Distiller Reading Lounge and review the “Diagrams And Plans Thread” posting thread.

Also review ‘The Rules by Which We Live’ and note item #8 Usage of plastics/ synthetics in distilling. This will reveal why the plastic/synthetic gasket on a Pressure Cooker lid makes a Pressure Cooker a poor choice for a home hobby Still boiler ->

Thank you very much for letting me know that, on the pressure cooker topic, would I be fine wrapping the gasket in teflon tape for now? Until I work out a permanent fix. I have a keg that I could use as a boiler, so I could go that route in the future.

@ stiller30,

Suggest visiting the “Must Read” ‘New Distiller Reading Lounge’ sub-forum and review the ‘How to make an everlasting PTFE gasket, Very Easily...’ thread.
