There shouldn't be any fermentables in backset. It should have all fermented before you added it to the still? :wtf:

You are right. I was mistaken about how much fermentable matter was left - I just ran the wash yesterday and was dissapointed since the whole thing was a waste of time- there was hardly ANY product.
I should have written sooner.

I took a 4-5 gallon plastice buckite and drill 100s of 1/4 in holes in all over, drump my sweet feed into it the 1st. time, then thren smaller screens and put in carboys to settle out, All have have is liqiud left, works great for other mashes also and making wine.

I am on my third (3rd) 50 pound bag of sweet feed.
Use a big boil pot with a false bottom.
It has a drain valve under the false bottom.
Pour the bucket of SW into the pot and drain back into the bucket.
Let is sit for an hour or so and pour into still.

Just make sure you leave the gunk in the bottom of the bucket.
Not much, about .5 liter...

Don't need to worry about bags this way...
