Re: traditional pot still
The angle won't have any influence on the taste at all.demon00 wrote: I've been reading more on the Liebig condenser, read that you can change the flavor by changing the angle of the Liebig..Not sure if I'm gonna solder my connections to the condenser, use flour paste to seal .. any thoughts on this ??? Yay-nay ?
Some traditional distilleries swear the shape of the "onion" on their stills affects the taste....I really doubt it's much of a difference.
I'd recommend soldering a connection to the condenser.
You can make a threaded connection and then a 90-degree threaded elbow on it, it would allow for any angle you like..
You would still have the option for unscrewing it and have a straight pipe through your Liebig (easier to clean that way).
Remember a few wraps of PTFE tape before you assemble it for a run.
Re: traditional pot still
Was thinking that, and just for storage and stash purposes for the connection
Re: traditional pot still
I was just about to ask if I needed PTFE tape on the union to the liebig.....Danespirit wrote:demon00 wrote:

Re: traditional pot still
looking at this pump on amazon, would it be big enough ? 400 gph and a lift of 6.9 ft 25 watt
Re: traditional pot still
I know this is an old thread but that is exactly my build. I soldered a compression fitting into the bowl.demon00 wrote:i'm actually thinking of doing a 22 qt stock pot, with a mixing bowl on top,3/4 dia. riser about 12-15 inches tall, a elbow or a T reduced to a 1/2 inch and a 1/2 coil/condenser..... I'm not sure how I'm gonna attach the column /riser , any pics or ideas how I can do it ? also should I use the flour paste on top of the stock pot as a o-ring and put the top on ? and clips from staples to hold the lid on ????
Re: traditional pot still
Not to old, still using but I ended up using my pot to a 24 qt SS pot, Haven't did any soldering on it yet, found the right sized SS mixing bowl on eBay gonna attach with 3/4 male/female copper fittings and maybe some solder for extra strength

Yep..! That will work.demon00 wrote:looking at this pump on amazon, would it be big enough ? 400 gph and a lift of 6.9 ft 25 watt
The important thing is the lift height...that determines how powerful it is.
You can see mine on page 2.
The cheap one from the same site, could do it: https://www.amazon.com/VicTsing-Submers ... 2ZR1Q02BKX" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;" rel="nofollow

Re: traditional pot still
I use copper unions . The brass compression nut on them is ok . It's never in the vapor path .demon00 wrote:is a brass compression fitting ok to use to connect the liebig condenser ?
If you ain't the lead dog in the team , the scenery never changes . Ga Flatwoods made my avatar and I want to thank him for that .
