I'm looking at buying my first still.
My aim is to make rum.. but more specifically, SPICED RUM.
I'm going to use a all copper alembic still,
But after some researching I have found a type of still with a column added above the pot, where apparently you can put things like cinnamon, vanilla, or anything to add flavour as the steam runs through..
So I'm wondering..
Has anyone had experience with these types of stills for adding flavouring? Such as spices to rum or similar?

Alembic pot still and flavour?

There is no need for a column, or gin basket, you can chuck them in the pot.

So what would be the benefits of the added 'column' in a still like this?

Column as I understand is mainly for essential oils. I actually have a bigger version of your one using it mainly for EOs. You put your raw material in the column, water in the pot - once steam goes through plant material it collects all volatiles. Anyway. You can use it without column as a simple pot still. Column one is apparently most versatile type of still.
