Turnip/ Onion shaped Alembic with Thumper???

Post by rickyaifd »

I have seen portuguese made alembics with condensers, but none with a thumper or doubler. I can't find anything in the prescribed reading as to why this is?

Honestly, because they are all made by the same company in portugaul and imported into the us. Even the ones that come from the whiskey still company. Which does offer a thumper for additional cost of course. Reason I know is I know the fellow that makes the thumpers for whiskey still co. They told him that to import the thumper would double the cost due to shipping and import taxes. A word of caution if you get one and decide to build your own thumper, the pipe sizes don't match American pipe and tubing.
Not to say they are not beautiful and highly functional though.

Look for "lentille" and you will get the Portugese variety of a doubler ...

They ship to the us seperate from the still though, and nearly double import taxes and shipping cost.
