Idea's on building a 3" column VM

I would like to build a VM column with 3" copper pipe I was thinking about 60 inches long for the column up to the output does that sound like about right height ? also would 2" copper be big enough for the output then reduced down to 1'' at the valve ? How much cooling would i have to have in the head to knock down the vapor for the reflux? what I would like to do to save on some cost is instead of using a 3"x 3"x 2" T for the output I would like to cut a 2" hole in the 3" and silver solder a piece of 2'' on to it .instead of using the T do you think this would work alright ?
