4" boka dream

Post by backwoods92 »

Hi

im just messing around with the idea of Building a 4" boka(got 3 meters of 4 inch copper pipe dirt cheap from a friend) for my 24 gallon stainless steel stock(which my friend also sold me for NeXT to nothing^^) pot with a 7kw burner. But I´ve run into some trouble. I cant figure out the condenser size for it, i was thinking about using a simple 15inch double helix made of 1/4 inch copper and for the product condenser a liebig made of 1 meter of ½ inch on the inside and a 90 cm piece of 1½-2 inch copper pipe, but will it be enough to cool the product ? or am I overkilling and should just go with a 0.25 inch inner tube in a 1 inch tube for liebig ?

Go with the Dad300 SS gas line condenser. A quick HD google search will tell you more about it. I'd consider using a 48" - 60" long gas line and a couple scrubbers packed in there.

Takes about 15-25 dollars and 2 minutes to coil it. Don't get no simpler than that. K.I.S.S.

You'll never need a 15" condenser... That's about 2x what you should need if the condenser is built right... Should be easy to get right using gas line...

Rad's spot on. After it's coiled 15" would be really long. I'm not sure exactly how long of a gas line you would need to coil it that long however in your 4" pipe. My 48"- 60" guess is just that. It might be a lot less than that.

Might want to do more research on what packing work well with which diameters. Mash Rookie has a thread called lets talk column packing that you may want to look at.

I notice your planning a liebig made of 1/2" inside 1-1/2" or 2". You don't need that much of a water jacket. You would get better results with a 1" outer sleeve. Never ran a 1/2" liebig, so 3/4" may even work.

okay, after reading 15 pages about packing, and some research on pricing where i live, im going to try SS scrubbers or copper scrubbers, since they are rather cheap here :) and a sight glass to monitor if flooding or anything ;) and because it looks awesome !
