Glad to hear it Spook...
Any leaks...? Did the ptfe tape hold up well during the run...?
I know it was only a vinegar run, but how many plates bubbled...? Maybe need the density of alc for that to happen...
Man it sure sounds like youve brought the baby to life.... Congrats...
Your fine Spooky, when you charge her up with some alcohol it will do just fine.. Mine had me a little concerned when I did my water vinegar run. She is gonna do fine. Glad to hear you got your sight glass taken care of.
KS
thanks sam! i found 3 small leaks, no big deal. honestly i thought that there would be more.. they were all around the welds of the sight glasses. the deflag sealed up fine with the 4" triclamp!!!!
the tape worked fine. i think that my downcomers might be a little tall,,, or my plates might be a little lower than they should be from the sight glasses than what they should be.. i could only see the 4th plate bubbling bairley. it was nothing like KY"s. all the other plates, i could see nothing due to all the condensation on the glass. this (if needed) will be a easy fix,, ill just remove the plate "tree" and adjust the heigth. i wont do anything until i run alcohol through it to see how she really preforms. becides a few setbacks,,, today was a good day!

I dont think you will have to adjust anything.. When you run alcohol it is gonna work great. You wont have any condesation on your windows until you get toward the end and the tails start to come up the column. The alcohol works totally different than the water...
You gonna try a alcohol run tonight?

naaa not tonight. iv already broke it down so i can start to clean up the spots that need to be fixed. by hearing you say this "You wont have any condesation on your ... he column"
and hearing how OD and you describe how the distillate will just stop during sertain transition periods,,,, it almost seems like this thing is gonna be a breeze to run.
i cant wait

it will only take a few runs to find out where she likes it... you find the right water flow to the dephag and the right heat. When that happens it works great.
this shit is high. OD told me to be sure and not use it until you have all your leaks fixed as it really makes it difficult to clean up for soldering after applying this.. I have not yet added to mine. But I am fixing to order some I think and giver a go.. I have to repolish first though.

thanks for the complements!
i knew what i wanted to do,,, but just dident know what it was called so i gave condensificator a shout and ask him if he knew what it was called... he said "engine turning" so i "you tubed" it.. it was really simple. just look it up on youtube and get a general idea of how to lay it out. BTW,,, it only cost 3$$. thats right , three dollars. i just got a $ 2.89 1" cup brush (metal brisels).. put 3 nilon zip ties around the brisels to tighten the pattern up, put in a drill press, and about 4 hours later,,, done. if doing this, i would sudgest making a jig to hold pipe in place (i used a miter box box) and do a few test runs on the same size pipe. it also works best if its just the pipe (with no nipples or anything like that on it) the key is to keeping the pipe firm,, otherwise,, itll spin swirles all over the thing.

it would be really neat to see some pics or a vid of you finishing the rest of the engine turning. super cool, got to get OD's polish technique, then you can just throw this thing in the trunk of your hotrod at the next car meet. cool daddy-o!
Finally got my still all tanned up and a sweet patina going and now you come up with this and a $35 can of lackqueer.
I think ill keep my still manly like.........(spit in corner for effect)

thats the thing,,, you got to get it totally polished before doing this to it.. i spent half of the day polishing the grahm,, and the other half doing the engine turning.. i knew that you had to put a laquer on it ,, but i thought that you could just use a common laquer.. i came home and found out that you needed a special laquer for copper and it needed to be ordered,,,,so now im sweating it because i hope that i can order it and get it before the copper starts tarnishing. i thought about puting a light coat of WD40 on it but that would be a pain to get off.... once again,, im stuck. i should have planed ahead .
