I dont know that you would see much going on inside the bok. But if it were me and I wanted one I think I would put it below the bottom plate and you could see how the distillate was being returned in the column and you could also see when the column was flooding..
I honestly think I would not put it on my bok though.. it needs to be insulated and that could cause a cool spot on the column?

Well, a sight glass, or some of them, are used more in a plated still that needs a cooling management like my twins or the flutes which OD started and made it a very popular home still for the real great results which can be archived in pot or reflux mode just managing the cooling water flow in the dephlagmator.

If you like some entertainment I would set it direct under the bottom plate, a bit higher than the packing, you would be able to observe the reflux and some action in the packing.

To make sure where this point is you could cross a 10 gauge copper wire at it's place to stop the packing from going higher.

Making it removeable it would cost you some fittings.

In case you don't want it there, where else it would be util?

I would solder it fixed.

OH YEA! I have been taking pics my problem is I'm on the worlds slowest internet so I takes hours to upload them all. I'm too involved in other stuff to wait too long!

Ok today I got some 4" copper!!! 3' for 60 usd. Not too bad, my question is 3' enough? I also have a plan for adjustable or removable plates. Stainless allthread as the center suport rod. Now I need reducers :esad:
3' is pleanty I used 25" in mine.. 20" in the column and 5" for the dephlagmator.. Your on your way..

what size do you need.. I have a cirle cutter and it cuts 1-1/8" If that will work I will send you some glass already cut.
you can get the size you need off of ebay I think.. That is where I got mine. It came from japan but I got it in about a week.
5 bucks I think
