The reason I asked I saw the thread and thought it was a good idea and was wondering why they did not catch on
all those big commercial copper ones seem to have plate disablers
do you ever need to take the plates out to clean them
if you ever wanted to disable plates its easy just turn on a valve
Just one of a thousand ideas floating around in my head

Well then, you might be overthinking it. I realise only too well that if you read everything about plated columns, it becomes confusing. Just make a four plate column, perf or caps, and put it to work. Plan it and make it. Semi modular would be my call but there are strong arguments for fully modular.

I know MashRookies Sexy Girl Lilly is Mark 2. Who else is/has build one in this style? This is exactly what I'm looking to upgrade to but with the perferated plates... I like the auto drain feature!

AFAIK, that was OD's last build...incorporating all the various improvements in design as well as the plate disabling feature. The reason the plate disabling never went anywhere was because...according to OD's test....while it "worked", the distillate that came from other plate configurations did not taste very good (or as good) as when all the plates were running. Given OD's record of being pretty accurate with what his claims were....I guess nobody wanted to go through all the trouble to build one just see if he was right.

Good to see this thread bumped. Maybe some guys will see just where the original flute and the Mk2 flute came from.

MR mucked around a fair bit with the disabling valves, as did olddog.

Aussie, the still you saw at my place was an OD Mk2. I'm proud to say I copied his design, with his help. All the modular ones you see kicking around hold a great deal of his design inherint in them. Some even claim it as their own  OD is still a member here, an he'd be happy to help another old boy. Shoot him a PM.

A great design is timeless, but I wouldn't be surprised if he recomended ommiting the plate drains.

Edit; chech out the "Frankenstill" too. worth a look.
You design it, I make it. Copper and Stainless. Down under. PM me.

Looks beautiful. Have you had a chance to run it and use the plate disabling feature
My Grandpa used to say. Don't argue with an idiot, because he will just drag you down to his level then beat you with experience.
He also used to say. I didn't say it was your fault. I just said that I was blaming you.
