after you pack your column do I need to run a sacrifice run to clean the packing

Yes...boil the packing in a pan of soapy water, rinse soap off well, first before packing.. If it's SS or Copper scrubbies they have an oil coating on them from the factory.

after wards, run a very thorough 50/50 vinegar/water run through it followed by an all water run to remove any vinegar taste from the still
then a sacrificial alcohol run
and you'l be ready to go
I dunno the logistics of soap (and personally I don't like the sound of it), but I prefer to use citric acid and hot water
