New 4" flute build
I'm kicking off a new flute build. I think it is going to take me a while to get through the whole thing so this thread may be slow. The plan is for a 4" modular flute - each plate a separate 5" section. Possibly with the option of a ~2' packed tower on top of that. I'm picking up some cheap sanitary ferrules off of ebay, some 4" DWV, and I already have some 2" on hand for the sight ports.
Reflux will be accomplished via a 5" 4" dephlag with 6 x 3/4" tubes; and condenser will be a 16" x 2" shotgun with 5 x 3/8" tubes. At least that's the plan right now. I am still picking up parts and the design changes based on what I can scrounge, barter, or find on sale.
First step is building the dephlag, which will start tomorrow. I have the 4" copper discs and will be drilling them out to fit the tubes. I think I am going to try to flare/flatten the end of the tubes to maximize solder contact on the ends.

Easiest way to avoid being on a TTB list is to not purchase a boiler, full column, or condensor from a retailer. Build your own.

That one is undecided. Plan "A" is to order some SS perf plates & DC from SD, to keep the cost down. I was checking out your flap disc. Looks like a good concept too. Bubblers look too fiddly to build and too expensive to buy, at this point.googe wrote: What plates you doing?.

I haven't had much time to work on this, but given what arrived on my doorstep this morning, things should be kicking up a notch or two now!
Thanks to BigAl for the copper "group buy"

Re: New 4" flute build
I have been totally stalled on this build because of a total POS drill press that I bought off of Craigslist. It had all kinds of side play. Live and learn. I got a new press today and hope to get things back on track!

Resell it to Flatwoods. He won't know the difference.

Re: New 4" flute build
Actually, I kind of had to push the project to the side while focused on my day job. I built up most oIf my dephlag - which I have to say was a pretty daunting exercise in soldering. I'm still not sure it's leakproof at present... In the middle of that I had to get a new drill press and I still haven't built up the jigs to cut the view ports for the flute sections. I have some time now so this prod may spur me to work on that over the next couple of weeks. Basically I finished my new boiler, converted to 240v, and then started making neutral with my old CM rig. It's working so well I lost the mojo on building the flute.
But I have a whole lot of expensvie copper and fittings down in the garage now. I need to get back on it.
