Max takeoff rate for a 1/4" tube on an boka head?

Max takeoff rate for a 1/4" tube on an boka head?
What's the max takeoff rate one could expect using a 1/4" output tube on the bottom plate of a Boka head? Would one be better served wth a 3/8" takeoff tube on a Boka?
If I were to run a boka in potstill mode for a stripping run: How much heat can I throw at a stripping run assuming the condenser could knock it all back down to the plates? Basically, at what flow rate does a 1/4" tube start to choke itself and cause unintended overflow/reflux back down the column? 2 LPM? 3 LPM? 1 GPM?...
I tried searching but I appear to be at a loss.

I can run mine at 4-5LPH on a strip run.

Actually. I'm doing a strip run later tonight. I'll time it and let you know

How big is your column?
Are you using a condenser to cool your distillate? If not, how would you characterize your distillate temp at 4-5 liters per hour?

2 inch. 4500w. Product cooler after take off valve.LWTCS wrote:Hi.Monkeyman88 wrote:I can run mine at 4-5LPH on a strip run.

Thanks Monkey, Just what i was looking for!
I want more power handling in my rig so I can run in the 1GPH range. I'm doing a rebuild and I just wasn't sure if I should upgrade my 1/4" tubing to a 3/8" tube. It looks like I should be fine. Now, what I might do is run 1/4" tubing to a 3/8" needle valve that way I can keep precision control but not have my takeoff valve be the limiting factor.

On my run last night I got just over 50ml in 30seconds. That's about 6LPH. Which is about right. 2.5 hours from switch on to switch off. 8L of distillate collected. Could go faster if I had a 5500w element.

If you can go 3/8" then I say do it.

MM88, that's smoking fast through a 1/4" needle valve! I didn't think one would allow that much flow. Being that SS needle valves aren't that expensive any more (thanks Ebay!) I would roll with the 3/8".

I know. I've checked my numbers many times as they don't line up with anything I've seen. But the numbers don't lie. For a 45L charge at 10% switch on to switch off is 2 1/2 - 2 3/4 hours with ~8L low wines at the end.

Its not the size of the 1/4" that will limit you but the internals of the valve .
You could always put a ball valve in parallel with a needle valve and have the best of both worlds

I have a swage-lock 6mm needle valve. Works nice.
