What Cleaner on SS Column?

Post by KYMountainMan »

I have a PSII High Capacity Column and it looks lightly tarnished on the inside.

Brewhaus said not to use vinegar on the column because vinegar will pit stainless steel.

So, what can I use to clean the interior of the column?

Try citric acid.

Really????That's what they told you? Oh dear.

Vinegar is fine.
By comparison, with an equal measure of vinegar and lemon juice, the vinegar has a little less acid than the lemon juice.

This product below makes vinegar it's bitch, and is specifically for SS,,,if you see my meaning.

The key is to (neutralize) rinse thoroughly after cleaning.

Acid will also help to re passivate the previously tarnished area.

Good call.

I imagine that the cleaning vinegar at grocery stores would be an acceptable choice as well.

I found something locally, that works really well, and the best part is that it is cheap!

Lemi-Shine. It's a product in the dishwasher liquid section at Wal Mart, and removes hard water stains and spots from stainless steel, and cleans the inside of your dishwasher.

I called the company, and they said to dilute 1/8 cup with 12 oz. of HOT water and use it as a spray solution.

I sprayed it on liberally, let it sit for 15 minutes and rinsed it off. What didn't come off with the first run, came off with the second application.

It works great, and the good news is that it only cost me $3.00 for the Lemi-shine and $1 for the spray bottle. I still have plenty of Lemi-Shine to 'Recharge' the spray bottle.
