what are the valves for
I was looking at some of the bigger stills tonight and I keep seeing valves on the sides of the columns just wondering what they are for

Re: what are the valves for
so does the distalate travel through that small pipe on the right side and into the column or does it still come up from the bottom

On one side the valves by-pass the plates
On the other, they supply CIP "Clean In Place" water

Re: what are the valves for
so another question is the distalate hot enough coming off the first column then going into the 2nd column to go up through that column or is there a heat source in the bottom of the 2nd and 3rd columns

Vapor is hot enough to travel up or down hilleb12 wrote:so another question is the distalate hot enough coming off the first column then going into the 2nd column to go up through that column or is there a heat source in the bottom of the 2nd and 3rd columns
So it's the heat source for the next column
Distillate is already liquid
Re: what are the valves for
so there is no distillate in the bottom of those columns? the columns use the distillate coming off the first column to heat up, and I take it those are return lines at the bottom of the columns back to the still when the distillate cools at the beginning of the heatup.

Don't confuse "distillate" and "vapor". The vapor carries from one column to he next and yes, the line going back to the boiler carries excess distillate (condensed vapor) back to the boiler.eb12 wrote:so there is no distillate in the bottom of those columns? the columns use the distillate coming off the first column to heat up, and I take it those are return lines at the bottom of the columns back to the still when the distillate cools at the beginning of the heatup.

Re: what are the valves for
a looked at googe build looks awesome my other question is how many columns can you have before the vapor is not hot enough to travel through the columns. like if you took a 16 plate 8 inch column and broke it up into 4 4foot tall columns would it still operate the same
