Just rescued this coil (1.75 inch) from surplussed immersion chiller. I have been wanting to build a 2" CCVM and think this would be a good starting point.
Will this work for a condenser on a CCVM?

Will this work for a condenser on a CCVM?
If you can't be a good example, at least be a terrible warning

I'll bet it'll work just fine. You might need a scrubbie or 2 in the middle. And maybe another one or 2 on the outside to get a good friction fit.

Single or double wound? Hard to tell for sure by the photo.

The winding is awfully tight.....but it may work. Try it and see. When you get to the end of the run you will know. If you have any vapor from the top.....you will know it is inefficient. Time to go with gas tube which is very efficient.

I'd rather see it in copper, for conduction purposes, but I'm thinking it will do fine - please DO put some copper scrubbies inside it to disrupt the flow and also outside if it's got enough gap.
But "this sir will kill" (the vapour )

Here's some more pics. I figured I would have to add some scrubbies.

It looks better suited for imersion in a liquid (in a pipe) for transfering heat. The tight coils which appear to be touching don't give you as much surface area exposed to the vapors. And since it is stainless, not copper, the heat transfer coefficient of the tubing is significantly less than copper. If there was an inner coil it would improve performance too. Even a cold finger would help.
But, it is what it is. I am skeptical that it will do all your knock down required as it is designed, but who knows...

Didn't cost me anything and I'm gonna build one anyway. Yer probably right about the tight coils. I'll give it a try and if it doesn't work I'll go with the ss gas tube. That coil was from an immersion chiller with some sorta coolant under pressure running through it. I gotta try it anyway. Thanks for the input guys.

Here's a link for the unit this coil came from if anyone is interested. Model 1107.
