mixing plate sizes

Post by chickenfeed »

question, Has anyone ever mixed plate sizes in a column. for example I have a 3 plate column made of 4inch bubble cap plates I also have a 4 plate column with 3 inch bubble cap plates. If I was to use both at the same time would it cause flooding problems and would I place the smaller 3inc column on the top or the bottom. I have read a lot about a packed column on top of a plate column but not this.

You will be limited by the 3" plates as they will flood first. I have run sd bubble caps and pro caps mixed in a column and the bubble caps flood at lower power than then pro caps. I would expect mixing plate sizes will do the same thing.
I did not figure out which was better, flood on the bottom or top first.

I'd put the 3" on top for mechanical reasons
