Use of copper mesh

Post by Canuckwoods »

I built a Boka and used copper mesh. I have searched but have not found any mention on how to use it. Right now I just jammed it into the column sort of tightly. Is this correct or do you make balls with it more like a scrubby?
Thanks for the help.

You should feel some resistance if you try to draw air through it.

i usually roll it. ot should have enough resistance to stay firmly in place. if you run water over it, you should get flow through without pushing out the packing.

You are supposed to roll it up into like a toilet roll shape. Once the the column is full you should be able to blow through the it easily. If you cant blow easily its to tight.

I roll it.

+1 to previous comments on determining proper roll density and fit.

Assuming you have a tall column, you will want to have a good stick for using mesh. Use it to gently pack each roll to the proper height in the column. One end of your stick should have a small hook, like a cup hook or paperclip. Use that end to fish out each role, one at a time. I find this method helps my mesh stay in shape so it lasts for more runs.
