Hey Guys,
It's been a while since I posted anything so I thought I'd make an appearance and show off my latest copper skills and the interracial brass-on-copper porn. I've been focusing on building a better parrot. I say better because we're always trying to improve things around here, It's what I like best about HD!
I've probably done about a hundred google site searches and haven't seen anybody make a parrot quite like this But If there is one out there let me know I'll tip my hat to them. Moving on.
I build my first parrot here several years ago. Ever since then I've been looking at ways to improve it and make it better. The big things to take into consideration seems to be that a parrot needs to be safe, light, minimize still-to-hydrometer response time, minimize smearing of cuts, be affordable to make, and if it's attached it needs to be able to drain foreshots and be easy to use.
That being said....
These parrots utilize a 3/8th compression T union soldered on an angle. The bottom of the T union uses a removable screw cap. Because of the angle foreshots will flow out without going into the hydrometer section! When It's time to collect just screw the cap on and use it as you would otherwise. It's also worth noting that the angle of the T Union allows for the parrot to be tailored to right or left handed distillers!
Heres a side view of the left handed version:
The 3/8 tubing minimizes distillate volume between condenser and the hydrometer section. The T union also minimizes void volume, compared to a large ball valve, which minimizes fraction smearing.
And this is last image is to show off some of my brass cutting.
A dragon, a copper adams fly, a scorpion, and Tails the shaking wet dog!!
What do you think?

Great idea and good timing. With your permission, I'm going to use that design.
Edit- don't have the skill set for the ornaments, yours look great.

I place the ornament across the gap between then hydrometer holding section and condenser output side. It sits there sort of like the stripper girl in my original parrot. I'll post a mock-up later when i get home today!bigal2286 wrote:So where do the ornaments go? Very nice design

I have ben wanting to do that from copper. Did u use a scroll saw and nips. of cource files, What about some of the lines for wings and feathers??? Mine would be native american symbols. I also want to do a wall hanging as i have a couple sheets of copper 16 oz but they are not full sheets. I realy would like to do some silver work. I like your idea for your bird.

I used a jewlers saw. If you go that route, take your time and get some saw lube and GO SLOW. It's a hobby not a race! It's really slow going but very much worth it. My first attempt was the adams fly with a coping saw, the rest were all with the jewlers saw. I hardly had any clean up with the jewlers say.
If you want to try some detail work you could look into engraving the feather and other details.
