Cement is not meant for human consumption. I would inspect it frequently for wear. Corn is pretty hard, but as long as the cement roller isn't breaking down and getting in the grist, you should be ok.

Cement? I think it will break soon. Mortar would be much harder. But not cheap products from hardware stores. And at least in my country I would have to buy a sack with 25kg and would pay all in all so much that I rather would buy steel rolls. And perhaps it needs a few attempts until you have found the optimal granulation and surface treatment and perhaps you need glass fiber or steel reinforcement.
But hey! I am very curious, perhaps I am wrong.

Zero cost, all salvage parts. Base fits perfectly on top of bucket. Still there is some room for improvement but I'm very happy.
Last weekend 4kg of malt (2kg of Pale Ale 2 row + Wheat malt) were milled in few minutes - by hand (crank).

Hello, I've just wanted to share with you some of my findings from this "alpha" prototype.
  • No need to have special motors for powering this up, no gears etc
  • For improvement I need to reduce diameter of shaft to fit battery powered drill ~10mm
  • Barley/wheat are easy to be milled by hand - crank is sufficient if you are making small batches once a week (like me).
  • Top of bucket solution - love it.
  • Need to think of some system to make gap adjustment faster/easier.
  • System to turn both part at same time not needed.
