beating cabin fever builds
hi all
Its mid winter here, and being so. I can't get a ferment to go, in my garage, for a bit yet . so I've been dreaming of doing an AG run, once spring springs, and what equipment I might be able to come up with. this is them so far then a corm mill? this is what it makes next on the list I know its not copper porn yet hopefully soon.

Looking at that copper pile. You gonna build a 7 plate column? Hey let's see a pic of that bagger hiding behind the copper parts
Re: beating cabin fever builds
close but not quite. I'm planning on a semi-modular build with a 4 plate section and a 2 piece addable section. the 7th plate is just cause I have a tendency to fubar pieces when building but I didn't screw up today
just cause you noticed this is "baby" she also is suffering from cabin fever.
Re: beating cabin fever builds
I have an 05 that's a daily rider for the last 12yrs and a 67 that I got runnin a while back that's gonna get a full on resto sometime down the road.
I'm building a four plate column now and was thinking about building another section, I have plenty of material, just can't make up my mind. Really was just gonna solder the whole thing up with no flanges.
Have fun on your build. Should get baby out the garage for a putt, definitely helps with cabin fever.

waiting for clean salt, sand free roads before she comes down from her perch:)
Re: beating cabin fever builds
In my build thread you said you were looking for glass. If you hadn't seen this yet check here-https://www.mcmaster.com/#glass-discs/=16488bm
I'm just using 1/8" thick window glass, gonna cut myself. Seen others go this route and they never said they had problems. If this is the best or safest,I don't know so please don't hold me to it. Temps really are not very high and being open no real pressure being built.

Thanx Pooch I have not seen that . I don't even remember where (what thread) I read that borosilicate was best for sight glasses, but it just stuck in the grey matter as "need that". I'll do some more searching myself on glass. thanx again

my lift looks the same but I got it from a place in Texas and it's rated at 1500#. with both the side panels mounted on one side it makes a good build/stilling bench while holding baby

Wiki quote, "Borosilicate glass is sold under such trade names as Borcam, Borosil, Suprax, Simax, Heatex, Endural, Schott, or Refmex, Kimble, and some (but not all) items sold under the trade name Pyrex."
Try searching different names for it. eBay also has sellers offering glass disc cut to size.

Re: beating cabin fever builds
Tell us more about the corn mill.
Re: beating cabin fever builds
not much to say . I stole the idea from stainless dude, his build thread is "hammer mill project/grain grinder". made some mods from what he had because I found a less hp motor and it spun backwards to his build. the size of my unit was determined by the scrap I could repurpose from dumpster diving I did ask about the beater bar amounts and sizes but he's not around to answer. oh well. it was a fun build for just killin time I luv building stuff just to prove to myself I can
if you have any specific Q's ask away

I like the use of a drill press as a setup for mashing grains with.. and would you have or could you provide us with more pictures of your built..
I have a spare one that I picked up at a yard sale for 15 dollars, it's an older model, but work well.. and I might just set it up for that purpose..

Re: beating cabin fever builds
the only part of the build that was "technical ?" was making an extra shaft and mount for the third pulley. if your old drill press has a decent low speed rpm it's not necessary. My drill press's slowest speed was 600 or so and you could grab the shaft at any time and stop it dead. adding another belt reduction increased the torque and slowed it down to 340ish I'm hoping that's gonna be slow enough to mix with, without slinging corn everywhere will see the other part of the mod was extending the pole to get above the pot on the cooker

Thanks for the pictures and info..
I think my is in the 600ish on the low speed also.. will work at reducing the speed somewhat.. as for the pole part, did you use just ordinary steel pipe or PVC pipe for the shaping..

SB, that piece of tube steel is actually an arm from a direct tv mount repurposed. as it already had a 45 degree bend for an offset, all I did was fab another 45 to put the drill press on straight. the height being right was just a bonus every 4th shift at work I have access to a lathe to make some of this stuff, if I didn't I'd have to be a lot more creative than I am
