Can't Find 2" Tri-Clamp End Cap with 1" NPT Female Threded Hole

Post by NineInchNails »

Anyone know off hand where I can order one? I've been searching like crazy and no luck. I found one place, but they require a $40 minimum order. Just a 2" Tri-Clamp end cap with a 1" npt threaded hole.

I would just drill an end cap and thread it myself, but it is very difficult for me. The cap spins in the vise and galls it up. Tried using wood block, didn't work. I tried rubber and it still didn't work. That was threading a 1/2" hole so I believe it would be next to impossible for me to do 1" threads.

I intend to solder this to the bottom of a keg for a drain. The alternative is a 1" weld spud. I would prefer a 2" cap because the cap would have much more surface area for a stronger connection. It's also lower profile and I would have to grind the back side of the weld spud so it wouldn't protrude too far.

Thanks guys. I'm looking for something like this. Just an end clamp with a 1" NPT threaded hole. I know there's nps threaded holes for elements, but that's technically the wrong kind of thread.

I hate waiting a week for parts so Aliexpress would make me crazy

Looks like I'm going to have to go with a welding spud and grind the protruding back side down flush.

Something like that? Or male NPT?

Edit: oh, I see you want a NPT hole in the cap, can't say I've seen something like that.

No, literally exactly this:

I just ordered a 1" Weld Spud. The weld spud is approx 1/4" thicker, but it will work fine. I'll just grind off the material that protrudes.

I just get a solid end cap and drill a hole and use a pipe tap to thread it.

By the way when drilling and threading them I just clamp it to a tri clamp tee and that holds it. Also over drill the hole a 5-10 thou and it will thread easier.

A 1" NPT or NPS tap capable of working stainless is spendy. I got a 1" NPS and it only lightened my wallet to the tune of about $85 CAD, and this was one of the lower priced decent quality options available locally.

I have clamped a 2" cap to another fitting and it spun. I've done it all. I'd like to see someone tap a 1" hole in a 2" cap without using a lathe and see how they achieved it.

Glacier Tanks has a catalog entry for them, but they're backordered.

Thanks for that link. That's a great price for that element guard kit. Still Dragon sells theirs for twice that price. For $59 Dernord has an element with guard

I ended up buying a 1" Welding Spud.
