Hello everyone, nice to meet you all, I'm Idan from NY.
I've been a long time reader of the forum. It all started after I've made about 100gl of hard cider from a few trees we had around our property. It killed me to throw away all the spent pomace and I thought why not ferment and distill it just like grappa.
A year later I built a basic pot still based on a sixth barrel keg with 12" 2" column.
I really enjoyed some of the eau du vies I made, mainly apple, quince and peach but felt like there was a lot of room for improvement. I kept burning the mash because my electric heater was touching the solids. I felt like sometimes I'm not getting enough flavor from the fruit and I mainly wanted to solder some more copper!
I'm now in planning stages of a double jacket electric heated boiler with a four plate column and a shotgun condenser and I'm excited to figure my plans out and start a build.
Thank you for all the help and excited to be part of this community!
