Not dumb at all if it keeps us lead free Stingrayjay...

Lead is used to help machine the brass and must be removed from the surface.
10mins in the vinegar/peroxide solution will rid them of the lead content.

Some guy's even go a step further and tin/solder any brass that will come into contact with the vapour/spirit...

I use a pickled brass fitting on my Liebig connections for the LM/VM and Pot still... No lead = no worries...

Oh, and one more thing.
I done a lead test on un-pickled brass fittings and it was positive.
Done the same test on a pickled fitting and it was lead free, so it does work...

Hope it helps...

There are some hardware stores and chemist shops will stock a small kit for testing lead...
Very easy to use, just follow the instructions... Cost about £12.... Try FleaBay as well...

Hope it helps...

Me too, it looks like I am about to be let down with my stainless fittings and I want to be safe with brass. Thanks Samohon!

Just done a search on google with "lead home test kit uk" and got some links to sites that sell them...
Most are for testing water, but just take a swab from the brass fittings and test using the instructions provided...

Hope it helps... :ewink:
