Another from england

Postby Stingrayjay » Wed Apr 11, 2012 7:39 am

Hello ,
First i just want to say a big thanks to all for such a good read over the last few months , i have now started soldering :-)

I had trouble registering at first and thankyou to admin for helping me out ,

So last weekend i made a condensor , a simple design i saw on you tube i think quite a while back ,
Having made it i am quite confident in my soldering skills to proceed further ,

For now i can show you what i have so far , if you say it wont work then i will move on knowing i have the ability to solder something else together :-)

Jason

Welcome. The condenser might be a little short, but the construction looks good. I'd suggest a minimum of 24" contact area for a 8-12 gal charge unless you have lots of time.

Welcome to HD Stingraygay, +1 with heartcut, looks great but may be a little short, all you can do is try it and see, depends on what sort and size boiler you have. OMD

If i am honest , its not about the drink , i am what they call an equipment junkie and my fabricating skills should help me make a nice still to satisfy my thirst , i will drink brandy , whiskey or rum , but to be able to succeed in making a jar full of either from a safe ,nice looking bit of hardware will really be the buzz for me ,

I suppose i made a condensor because a coil (although it works) looked to easy , i like a challenge , i have a workshop full of tools and a still is top of my toy list :-)

I will get the condesor sorted to a decent length , then will start with a pot still with it to try and learn the do's and don'ts ,
Meanwhile i will be collecting any copper tube offcuts i can ,

Oh , and yes please , would love to see the pic of the condesor you made mr 'Doo

Regards
Jason

Nothing wrong with that, especially if you have a good supply of cheap copper, damn stuff has gotten pretty spendy. Carry on and take pics for us.
