Hello All

Postby Stillbrewin » Wed Apr 11, 2012 6:03 pm

Greetings All.

I have poked around these boards for years, but never spent much time as a member. I have been distilling for 4 years now. I don't spend nearly as much time thinking about whiskey as I do beer but, I thought I might be able to share as much help as I can ask for, so what the heck lets give it another shot.

My still is a simple mighty mini 21" column from mile hi. I do AG and sometimes sweetfeed. My column is lightly packed and starts producing at 160 proof which works for my needs. I don't do neutral spirits. I have an electric 8 gal kettle and just recently finished making a keg boiler. I am waiting for a weldless 3" dial thermometer and stainless 3pc ball valve with stainless diptube to arrive before it is actually complete.

Welcome stillbrewin, I wouldn't have cut the top out of my keg if I were you but each to his own, can you get it to seal now? I see you have your hoses run pretty standard, that probably works fine for whiskey and if you don't want neutrals it should be OK. I have a MileHi CM and run my hoses a bit different PP has a CM mod link I'm sure he'll hook you up with so you can check it out. Looks good though, so good luck and happy stillin

I almost forgot  I bought the same propane burner you got there, one cook and walmart got the damn thing back, unless you figured out how to by pass the timer. Anybody that don't know what Im talkin about there is a 15 minute timer on the damn thing that you have to reset every 15 minutes or the f--king thing will go out on it's own, what a pain in the ass, I ended up with the exact same thing without the timer, you can probably bypass the timer but why should a man have to fix something brand new. Anyhow good luck with that. It's a safty thing I'm sure but I'm a big boy now and I think I know when my burner needs to be turned off. OMD

I have only used the keg once so far. I used a super hi tech polymer consisting of oatmeal, flour and water to seal it : ) I ordered some 3/32 in cork to make a gasket but it has not arrived yet.

I needed to cut the top off the keg so I could clean it and install the ball valve drain and thermometer. The top is 2 in larger from an identical keg.

Yeh that burner also sux. I am going to be ordering these http://www.brewmagic.com/products/keg-kettle-ss-burner but I need to order 4 of them so it may be a bit before i save up that much cash.
