and its not drinking liquor. It's the fact that I think, for some reason, anything I can do myself I need to do myself.....and that's why I'm here. I've looked at doing my own distilling for sometime but for some reason I never started. Silly me. Now I've purchased a boiler and a column and will hopefully be making my own spirts in the not too distant future.

Welcome to HD, also curious to what and where you bought your still. We have a few honest outfits out there unfortunately there are a lot of rip off artists as well sense the hobby is illegal who would you report it too?

I bought a used stainless 10 gal boiler. I bought the column from Brewhaus. Just a basic column, not reflux or anything.

I like to drink pretty much anything except scotch so I'll probably try make a variety of things....whiskey, rum, and I'll try try neutral spirits even though a pot still isn't ideal from what I understand.

I need help with one thing though.

My boiler has a stub pipe coming off of it that won't work with my column. I've got a pipe stub with a tri-clamp end to get welded on my boiler so it will mate with my column. My brother can weld, but I don't think he has really delt with welding food grade type stuff. Is there any special type of welding restrictions such as certain types of metals in the welding, etc.....

Yep...I screwed up a $150 pot thinkin I could use stainless rods with a regular stick welder on stainless. Don't know exactly what your situation is, but it will prolly need to be tig welded.
