Hello from SoCal!

Post by telefonica »

Hey everyone, I just wanted to introduce myself. I'm a novice looking to get into the wonderful world of hobby distillation. I'm in SoCal and have been loving whiskey since my first sip of Jack Daniels years ago. I'm looking forward to making a whiskey all my own and to hopefully gain a new hobby to boot.

I'm reading now, both the "Required Reading" here, and also the great books over at http://aussiedistiller.com.au/books/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;" rel="nofollow

Hopefully I'll be starting my keg build in the coming weeks / months. I can't thank this forum enough for the wealth of information that it contains. You all have been an invaluable resource.

welcome, there's plenty of info here. i myself have a keg still. love it. but, i would love to make a few changes. first being turn it upside down and use the 2" opening as a drain. but, decide for yourself. there is a wealth of knowledge here

I suggested that to someone else and they asked a very sensible question that I could not answer;

Would that be okay if you were running on gas?

What do you think?

Thanks nuntius01! I think that's a great suggestion. I've even heard that people drill 6" holes in the bottom (now the top, once turned upside down) and use 6" to 4" adapters for the column. Here's another forum where some people were talking about that very thing:

Hi, telefonica.
I'll tell you a great whiskey that is sugar based and easy, and is friggin' great after just a few months on oak:
Odin's Cornflake whiskey (in my signature below).

For a simple recipe, I wowed the boys with some 6-month-old while camping 2 weeks ago.
Excellent proof whiskey doesn't have to be all grain.

Welcome.

Welcome, TF!

Nice to see another socal resident here. I'm brand new to distilling although like a lot of folks here have a background in AG homebrewing. About to embark on my first AG bourbon here shortly. Any questions, just holler.
