A g'day to Tony,

Post by heavyfuel »

G'day Tony,
I wish to tell you that you and your assistants are extremely accurate.
I have been brewing for 9 years or so now, and because of finding your website early in the process I do pretty well. Having read all about what sort of stills are available I chose the Nixon (?) type unit. I built it myself, including the cooler coils and had fun doing so.

My boiler is a 50 liter beer keg and I have 3 x 30 liter plastic vessels in which I start my brews. When the time comes usually 10 days after starting the brews, I decant 1 and 1/2 of the vessels (approx., 35 liters) into my keg. When I fire her up, it takes about 1 hour to reach 74 degrees because of the 2 heating elements - 950 watt and 1200 watt, and I leave it boil for another 30 minutes to get everything bubbling nicely thank you very much. At that time I take 50 ml of waste, that is rubbish, and then 100ml for nextime, and then give or take 5 liters of alcohol at 95 percent every time, up to about 85 degrees. Then it is shut off time. And that is it for me. Thanks for taking my chat.
Cheers, Peter.
