Hello from Transylvania

Post by cosminman »

Hi there. I am new to the hobby, at least at home distilling level (here we have a long tradition of moonshining, our product is called palinca of horinca). I am brewing beer for quite a while now, using an electric BIAB system that I made. Now I have upgraded my pot and I am able to attach a lid with column, so I will start to distilling using the same equipment. I have a 4500 w element in the 50 liters pot, controlled by a PID. The first batch will be a single malt scotch.

Welcome to HD. Looks like your well on you way so my suggestion if you haven't already is to check out recipes in the Tried & True section. Good luck.

Welcome.
Isn't homedistilling legal or semilegal in your country?

Welcome! Brew in the bag beer to single malt whisky sounds like a logical progression. No huge learning curve required, well cuts but...
Collect your run in a bunch of numbered small jars, let them air out and start tasting with the middle jar or the one that smells the cleanest to you. Work your way to both side, don't be greedy.
Enjoy your journey!

Thanks for the welcome guys :)

Yes, distilling is legal here, as long as it is for personal use and not for selling. If you want to do it commercially you have to pay taxes but otherwise you can make your own drink. In my area it is quite a tradition to do so :)
