Hows it going eh? Reetings from the great white north
Hey guys been lurking for a good month or so and have been reading alot. My buds a brewerand loanedme slme of his textbooks which really get into hard numbers of distilling as well.
Built myself a simple potstill with a liebeg condenser, 50l keg and 54mm copper column. Ran water and steam through it for 2 hours last night then a 50/50 vinegar water mix.
Just finished a sacrificial run of tpw and got about 2.5l of with crystal clear etoh. Then i proceded to dump it all on a pile of cedar in my fire pit and flicked a match at it. Good way to warm up in -4c weather.
Taking a break for the day but have 80l of cornflake wash clearing up in corny kegs right now, we'll see how it goes tomorrow.
Some observations i had:
Didnt use as much propane as i thought i would need, was able to lower to a simmer soon after i got the foreshots
My co detector didnt go higher than 0ppm in my drafty-ass shed
This hobby seems dangerous for the liver, what am i supposed to do with the excessive amounts of likker that this thing will pump out? It took me a lot of cider batches to get drinkable cider...
Cheers buds.

Drinking some 6-month-old cornflake barrel whiskey right now.
Good on you for properly cleaning that still.
Welcome! And good luck with your adventure.

Welcome!
looks like you're off with a good start.
I don't find myself with excessive amounts of booze, although my friends tend to visit a bit more frequently...

Thanks for the introduction, and welcome to the forum.
I just did a cornflake batch recently, to add flavor to a feints run. You'll like it.
On the matter of surplus, I haven't had that problem yet. Just building up aging stock.

Hey sorry for the delay in posting... Been busy. Ya im up in Canada. Turned about half my cornflake whiskey into apple pie and oaked the rest with the nuclear method: tastes great! Hesitant to post any pictures of the still for fear of black helicopters
Working on a tpw wash right now and plan to do another cornflake wash with dunder added this time.

Simple and effective protection for the liver: drink a glass of water and a warm shower before bed, without fail. Works a treat, never a hangover (natch) and liver enzymes always pass.Redneck1775 wrote: This hobby seems dangerous for the liver, what am i supposed to do with the excessive amounts of likker that this thing will pump out?
Excessive amounts of liquor? What excessive amounts of liquor?
PS: Welcome! Gotta try the UJSSM. Great drop.
