Hi from the PNW

Post by Scorpster »

Hello everyone

I got started distilling this year when I bought a POS pot still to try and distill my water, which comes from a creek and is always somewhat dirty and tastes like it. Of course the pot still didn't remove the taste so I started to investigate further. I had already been making beer so I was surprised that whiskey is so similar. So ran a couple whiskey runs and a rum run so far, some of the whiskey is alright and the rum is quite good now that it's been on oak chips for 3 months. Of course I found the process interesting and the results quite surprising, so I just purchased a new setup that includes both a pot still and reflux column. It will be a while before I get it assembled and tested, but I've got a 10 gal rum wash just finishing up that will be ready to go. Been lurking here for 6 months reading a lot and love the depth of knowledge that is assembled here, going to be pretty tough to come up with a unique question to ask so this may be my only post!

Now I only hope I can reflux that taste out of my water...and that E95 should make re-shellacing my floors much funner.

A special thanks to the Sysop.
