New member looking for old recipes
I’m new to distilling but have been brewing beer for almost 20 years, so I’m really eager to learn this next step. My deep roots originate from my great grandfather. He was born in 09’ (1909) and probably started making shine in 1910! Although I don’t have any proof (ha! my first shine pun ) I’m fairly certain he ran shine through the Prohibition years. He was well known in South Georgia for his cane syrup, corn buck, and peachy-hoopie. Which is what brings me here. I figure corn buck is some sort of high octane drinkable mash and that peachy-hoopie is a jar of shine filled with peaches or a peach brandy. Either way, I thought I’d ask yall if anyone knew of a corn buck or peachy-hoopie recipe. I’d greatly appreciate any info that could help me recreate Grandpa’s drinks. Thanks!!!

Do a bit of the required reading and it will hopefully let you ask questions that we can answer. Beer brewing helps a bunch for AG but there is some stuff in between.

Hi fishshocker I'm just as new as you but isn't corn buck just deer molasses, or at least a deer attractant?
I make rum with deer molasses. Try a HD Google search of this site.
Don't want to clutter the welcome center so will leave it at that.

.
I suspect 'Corn Buck' was corn and buckwheat, not a deer corn and molasses sweetfeed as mentioned previously.
"... Production of buckwheat whiskey is comparable to the production of malt whiskey, except that all or most of the barley is replaced with buckwheat"
Timing is about right: "Over a million acres of buckwheat were harvested in the United States in 1918. Its cultivation declined sharply in the 20th century with the adoption of nitrogen fertilizer which increased the productivity of other staples".
