Distilling peanuts
Just wondering... a question for you guys down south where peanuts grow. Anyone ever do any mashes with peanuts? I really know nothing about peanuts being from Canada other than they come in a bag that says Planters. I was told raw peanuts taste starchy like potatoes... anyone ever turn em into booze??
Give a man a fish and he will eat for a day. Teach a man to fish and he will sit in a boat all day and drink beer.

Makes me wonder. Tater sees sugar in it.Might be something to look into as a use for peanut after oil is removed for bio fuel. http://www.nutritiondata.com/facts-B00001-01c218N.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;" rel="nofollow
I use a pot still.Sometimes with a thumper

What made me think of it in the first place was my mom. She was telling me she was down in Georgia or Virginia or somewhere or rather down there where they grow lots of peanuts, she said she ate some that were boiled?? She said they tasted more like potatoes to her than peanuts...
So I figured if they are starchy in their raw state you could probably make em ferment. I just wondered if any of you southern boys ever tried it or heard of "peanut whiskey."

Grampa grew and roasted his own peanuts when I was a little guy. After digging and cleaning, he boiled them in salt brine( I think) and then dried them on the low temp wood fired cook stove.
If you wanted to use for fermentation, I think that a post-oil pressing product(factory waste) boiled in h2o should liberate starch without oils.

dunno if anyone's reading this thread anymore, but I've tried quite a few peanut flavoured drinks in Toronto. Pretty much any Jamaican or carribean store or restaurant has their own version of peanut punch. Any Jamaican members?

Re: Distilling peanuts
I boil peanuts in their shells in a pressure cooker - the cooking water you then throw away before you eat them always smells amazing, very woody and nutty. I wonder how much of that aroma comes from the shells and how much from the nuts? Also I wonder if that aroma is volatile? Might be worth someone aging half a jamjar of neutral in peanut shells? Sounds stupid, but damn that cooking water always smells good after boiling them peanuts...

Hmmm, what about fermenting other types of nuts? Acorns?

All I can think is that it would make a great shooter - Reese's pieces - one shot creme de cocoa one shot peanut booze....mmmm
Maybe try a small batch?
