Rice Mash

Postby nitramtWhat1 » Sun Apr 08, 2012 2:19 am

Hi there, hoping to get some insight into this before I begin.

I want to make a neutral from rice. All the information I get is to use brown rice and barley malt. Would it be possible to use a sugar water mix as a malt? Also not sure whether the boil or steep at around 150F. Any ideas would be appreciated. I will do it anyway and post the results, but some help would put me in the ballpark of getting right.

Thanks Martin.

Try the HD Google search link above right . When it comes up it will have the forum address in the search bar. Insert "<>" (the 2 angle brackets only) in the beginning of the address. Type what you want to search for in between the angle brackets. This will search the forums only for what you want.

Hope this helps.

I use cheap white rice with 30% 2-row and it works well. I put the milled 2-row on a false bottom, boil the rice for a minute, cool it to 155degF and pour it on top of the malt. With no false bottom, you could just mix them, ferment on the grain and rack it off after it settles. Added sugar works fine, but you need the malt or enzymes to convert the rice.
