I'm just finishing up a large strip of 70% Corn, 17% red wheat and 14% malted barley and have plenty of good back-set. I'm setting up for a 40% malted barley, 40% raw barley flakes and 20% rolled oaks triple distilled Irish whiskey next. Has anyone ever used back set for mashing in Single Malt or Irish whiskey. Up-side? Down-side?

Re: Back-Set
Backset will work, but be gentle with it. You don't need a lot to lower the pH...your mash will do that for you.
I suggest keeping this discussion in your other thread about this mash. Otherwise it gets "twisted around the axle".
