I mashed 4kg of flaked wheat and 2.5kg malted wheat last night, left it expecting to take an SG this morning from a pool of clear liquid. However I have no clear pool on top - the grain has risen and it's foamy..
It looks like its started fermenting
should I leave it?
just aearate it?
put some campden tablets in it and start with bakers yeast after 24 hours?
boil it and pitch some yeast?
just pitch some yeast?
also it has a detectable smell of something i cant place, maybe eggy or vomit?
wheat mash started fermenting on its own? maybe

also it has a detectable smell of something i cant place, maybe eggy or vomit? <- yummy! This sounds like sulfur (rotten eggs) often from inadequate aeration when starting. Get it started properly asap!

scooped most of the top layer of stinky grain off and ditched it.
aerated it and pitched yeast starter. I will see how it goes.

Probably picked up some wild yeast / bacteria.
A big pitch of fresh yeast will minimize the impact of whatever ails you. The vomit smell will (probably) become fruity given some time, and all will be well. ....... probably........

the smell has indeed now taken on a fruity tone.. my daughter remarked that the room smelt of black fruit cider! good enough for me.
