First UJSM

Many like to post about a first successful ferment (or first all grain mash), or first still built/bought or first good run of the still. Tell us about all of these great times here.

First UJSM

Post by grandpas boy »

First time any mash. Uncle Jesse's @ 6 1/2 gallons. Using donated 1/2 gal electric tea pot was able to dissolve sugar quickly. This is a very easy recipe for my first time. Everything cleaned and sterilized to start. High Spirits yeast, Tapwater pH 7.4, outside ambient temp 83F, starting brix 18. I pitched the yeast into a half gallon of the warm sugared water and waited until it began feeding well, which didn't take long at all. Within 10 minutes or so of adding to the mash it was working hard enough for the air lock to begin bubbling.

Good start. And I bet you get some good generations out of it.
You jumped right into our distilling trap and there's no getting out.
Congrats!

Still Life, I am trapped for sure. I popped up out of bed like toast this morning and headed directly to the mash. I am a happy man.
