My First Re-distill

Many like to post about a first successful ferment (or first all grain mash), or first still built/bought or first good run of the still. Tell us about all of these great times here.
Pics are VERY welcome, we drool over pretty copper 8)

My First Re-distill

Post by Rossco »

Hi Forum,
Wondering if people can give some advice for improving my neutral spirit.
My first few distillations using sugar and turbo yeast yielded about 3 litres of 80% spirit. Each batch was filtered with activated carbon and in one of the washes i used carbon also which gave me the cleanest result of all.
The taste however is not great and i have been considering redistilling the lot. My still is a 50 litre s/s gas tank with an internal element and the condenser is called a still spirits super reflux condenser. It does not have a value? which i have read about in the this forum.
I have currently have about 6litres of 60% alcohol and want to redistill it to improve the taste. Can i put it all back in the still along with 20 litres of water and switch it on? if so for how long and how much should i collect?/
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
