Couple of my ghetto creations

Many like to post about a first successful ferment (or first all grain mash), or first still built/bought or first good run of the still. Tell us about all of these great times here.
Pics are VERY welcome, we drool over pretty copper 8)

Couple of my ghetto creations

Hello all, losts of awesome photos on here. So I thought I'd bring the tone down a bit with a couple of my own... :wtf: Built an essence still for $18 NZD. Tried some juniper berries with excellent potent results
EDIT: I've removed the essence still as it breaks 1 if not 2 of the rules.. I don't want to get a whomping
Also made a pot still with liebig condenser for my boiler. Even with the skinny column seems to work well, getting around 65% ABV. Still trying to find a way to get rid of the brass bit, trying to find a SS compression fitting in NZ is tough. Made from spare pipe found under the house for the cost of 2 reducers and brass fitting - $14

That second still isn't ghetto at all  Craftsmanship looks top notch even if the column is a tad smaller than usual!

I don't think I'd drink anything that came outa the first one, mostly due to the rubber stopper  Also... be extremely careful not to overfill that one with herbs/whatnot, with a worm that small even the tiniest puke has the potential to clog that thing up... exploding glass ain't fun

I have to live with the stopper for the time being alas.. in fact it's the spare factory standard one which holds the thermometer in my Still Spirits reflux (latin name Refluxus Elcheapus) which is so popular down here in the antipodes.. I don't know what it is made of but I can at least say it's resistant to hot alcohol vapour!... Good point about the worm clogging, at least I got a gentle introduction to that issue, -but coloured 200ml of excellent essence with a yellow tinge :(

If you don't know what its made of. You can't say that. Ok you have no proof of that statement. Please read rule number 8 in the rules we live by. Statements like this shouldn't be made without proof it is in fact good to use.

I would also suggest it needs to be replaced with something safe.

shave down a wine cork, makes a good replacement thermometer bung. And the pot still head- really nice work  you could flog those on trademe as a upgrade kit once you sort out the brass problem
