Ran my first Gen UJSSM.
8 gallon in the 15.5 gal Keg.
Pulled spent corn, Put 3 gallons of water on the corn bed after I drained the wash, then added fresh corn.
ended up with about 6 pints.
I could not smell the tails .....but I know what they taste like now .....the last 2 pints are definitely tails.
put 2 gallons of backset into a 7 gallon bucket, added 14# of sugar, stirred it for about a minute and let rest about 5 minutes. stirred another minute to make sure it was all dissolved.
Added about 3 gallons cold water into the backset sugar mix. that brought temperature to about 85F. stirred real well.
Dumped that into fermenter, stirred for about a minute to aerate. About an hour later the airlock is going strong.....like a machinegun.....

Re: first UJSSM
What a great recipe. I took my last UJSSM through 6 generations. All of them were really good. Never failed to get that next ferment started with the backset.
Keep it going! You'll be happy.

Feels good to get that first run in, huh?
You did this as a stripping run, right? You stripped 6 pints from 8 gallons? If so, that's pretty low. I would expect somewhere nearer to 2 gallons.

I did more of a spirit run.
Full power(20a) on the 4500w till column started getting warm, Turned on the condenser and the Deflag ran it at about 1/2 open,
turned down the power to about 14-16amps.
held it in reflux for about 15 minutes. then turned down the water to deflag. it started to drip about a minute later.
Pulled the first 12oz as fores. probably way too much but..... Probably should have only kept 8 ounces, maybe 10 ounces.
then started collecting.
ended up keeping power at about 15-16 amps for a nice easy broken stream.

My nose is not the best in the world, and spring time in Indiana does not help.
i didn't smell anything like wet dog, wet socks, wet cardboard.
but I did taste something like what a pig farm smells like but I am not sure if I could smell a pig farm right now.
Re: first UJSSM
Yeah I'm with ya on the nose part NW ohio in spring is no picnic either
