Another first.. Sweet feed this time
I started a sweet feed ferment Sunday and it took of like wiled fire. Within and hour of sealing the lid on the fermenter the air lock was bubbling. The next morning it sounded like an automatick assault rifle going of. I fallowed Kentucky Shiners recipe with a few tweaks.
30 gallon fermenter
12lb sweet feed
4lb flaked maze
1lb 2row barley
40lb sugar
Boiled six gallons of water and dumped on the sweet feed and flaked maze. Stirrd and let sit until temp was down to 158 added barley. Let sit covered for 90 minuets stirred a few times then added sugar and stirred again. filled the rest of the way with warm water. Sealed the lid and away she went. Going on day three now and it's still bubbling like crazy.

I'm kind of flying blind here with a broken test tube for my hydrometer I was unable to get a OG reading. Don't really know if the barley was a waist to add with all the sugar I put in there. I had it laying around so I just went with it.

Some more added flavor, COB= corn, oats and barley
Won't hurt a thing though, mine always took off like a fire

Well, it's been a week now and no reports of anything bad with the ferment so things must be rolling right along.
Let us know how things are progressing!

Good luck with your strip. Like many here here I started out with UJ, but went to Sweet Feed fairly quickly. IMHO, sweet feed has a fuller, richer, more complex favor than UJ. I did find you have to be more careful with your cuts and sweet feed needs more age that UJ but the wait is worth the wait.

Good luck bubba, sounds like you're on your way now

Every time my city fool ass walks into the farmers' co-op to buy corn or feed molasses I feel like they've pegged me as a distiller.
Adding sweet feed to my shopping list should seal their suspicions.
I enjoy your posts Old Town and am awaiting this one's results. Go get 'em man!

I got a little over two gallons out of ten gallons of wash. I probably could of ran it down a little longer but the wife was nipping at my heals..

Looks like you need to get another recipe now you're rolling.
Keep up the good work and enjoy a few pints of this one for me

Yes Sir, I think I'm gonna go with the HBB the next time. I'm in the works of getting a thumper built up for my still. Corene1 helped me out with the head attachment for the thumper keg. I'm going to do the rest myself wish me luck.
