How not to do..!

Post by Danespirit »

Hi everybody..

I was cruising out on the net and came across what i would call "devices" because they do not deserve to be called stills.
Thought i would share those more or less dangerous devices, so new members can see how they shouldn't approach their new hobby of distilling.
The ever upcomming questions about aluminium, plastics and galvanized materials could be answered with a picture. Pictures say more than a 100 words.
Devices shown in these pictures displays inventive constructions that should never have left the imagination of their inventers.
Surely the intentions may have been good, but joining a site like HD would have given them the knowledge to make a still in a safe manner.

I used Google translate, the original was Polish i think. But the talk definatly was going on the "producing alcohol" subject.
Anyway.. this Frankenstein laboratory has a Vigreux column attached,so it's likely to produce some kind of booze.
I must admit i haven't the slightest clue about what substance is cooking there...but i wouldn't recommend drinking the stuff.

Thanks TB.. :) My intentions were that maybe a mod. could find a proper place to put the post in, so newbees could have a look at it. :) Questions asked a 1000 times wouldn't rise after looking at those pictures.

That would be an antiquated Charles 803 continuous still for fuel production that was created in the early 80's by the late Robert Warren and published in Mother Earth News...

Damn Rad are you a savant of distillery or what? I am impressed with the knowledge you have! I wish I knew a 1/8 of what you probably have forgotten.

think this thread deserves some uk contribution, and i hate seeing this design on sale without some serious bashing,

for starters the rubber gasket connector (stated to be joined to an pressure cooker ideally by the maker), and the hole (now thats an improvement) not lol

-being covered by the super secure and synthetic seal, that plus its general poor design

note the interesting free packing :shifty:

Just came by a post that perfectly shows the "quality" of made in china stills build and sold by people that doesn't know anything about distilling.
Or worse..don't give a damn about the consumers safety.. :wtf:

Sadly I have to confess that I bought something very similar from eBay a couple of years ago, but thanks to this site I knew to swap the gasket for ptfe and by cutting the through-pipes turned it into a nicely functioning pot still head. I don't use it now, but it got me started on the road :-D
