Cadmium

Post by dan_buddy »

Cadmium

Just built a new still
I used a lead free solder but I just read somthing about cadmium
And can't find anything else about my solder and I'm worried about this stuff
I used a lot of the solder
Would cadmium even be in a lead free solder ?
Do they replace the lead with cadmium
By the way I have done my fare share of reading
Really worried about this
It's gonna take hours to get the old solder out if I have to and I wouldn't be sure it's all out
I just put 180$ worth of copper together with this solder

You may not like the answer, but it's not hard to find if you look for it.

Finally got something
97% tin and 3% copper
Safe to use bys ?
Even if they were not saying anything about cadmium because the small amounts if it were say 1 % cadmium would that be dangerous ?
If so I will look farther into this to to the exact amount it does have
I'm using econosol solder by aim solder Canada

I mean small amounts I understand what you mean but if it were say 96.40 % tin and 2.40% copper would that little bit be dangerous ? All it said is 97 and 3 but what if there hiding small traces of it ?

Maybe do some searches outside the forum to get some better insight into its toxicity. I know that in paint it is considered toxic and can even be absorbed through the skin. My guess is that you find it to be NOT a good thing to use.

usually when it says 97 and 3 percent , then there will be no toxic metal residue in it - or said in another way safe to use :)
