methanol in your homebrew

Post by vitus1 »

I have heard that when you make homebrew you get methanol in it if you don't do it right
The way i was thinking to brew was

sugar
yeast
water
cornmash

let it stand for 2-3 days

then put it in a high pressure pot with a copper pipe in it so when it boil it gone up the copper pipe and then it gone to a bucket with cold water where the copper pibe is in loops and then there is a hole where it gone out near bottom of the bucket

is this a safe way to brew? and is there some temperatures i need to be aware of?

Wow.
If you can't be a good example, at least be a terrible warning

Pressure in a still is otherwise known as a bomb.
As in kaboom dead.

Please read more. Use the HD Google Search at the top of the page when you want to search a term like "pressure".
Leave a space at the end of the URL, and add the term or phrase you want to search.

I will give you another link, but you must take the initiative to research and read, read, read.

+1
You should never ever ever have pressure in a still.
All stills must be open to atmosphere at all times.

Please be careful. You can really hurt yourself if you do this incorrectly, and based on your initial post and responses, you need to do some significant research before moving forward.

Go to the New Distillers' Lounge, and carefully read through the sections there. All of it, a couple of times. Most of your questions will be answered right away, and then you'll be able for formulate ones that these folks are more equipped to handle at that point.
