Welding versus soldering

Post by rickyaifd »

I'm sure it's been discussed and even with all my reading, I've probably overlooked it, but what safety issues are related with welding of copper versus soldering of copper?

When done in a well vented area, none.

With proper fitment and a well executed procedure, none.

Guess I should have specified a little more... safety in regards to food and drink safety...would welding affect the consumable alcohols ... I know we use food safe solders...that was my concern.

After proper cleaning they are both safe.

Soldering is likely to be much easier and you can take it apart after.

Had to give up my oxy-acetylene, so all I have now is mig, stick or carbon arc - I don't think I'm good enough to weld copper gas-tight with any of those !

as long as you clean well. there is no difference. structurally, in general, welding is stronger if done right. however, soldering is more attainable for the average person.

If you need more strength than soldering, you need to quit climbing on your still. ;)
