Used 35 gallon drums
Have a chance to purchase some 35 gallon drums. They use to contain soap. Would this be a disaster to use after clean out for fermentation? Basically wondering if anyone has used similar barrels and did it go well or bad?

What are they made of, ie - HDPE, steel, stainless...what?
Do they have removable lids, or only have a bung?
How much didja’ have to give for them?

Years ago I picked up 2 55Gal HDPE barrels that were used to hold industrial soap my thinking was what the hell I'm going to use soap to clean them anyway. I was wrong. This soap was their for a long time I did use them for a water resivour and the constant heating and draining did clear it, I think. I wouldn't recommend them.

Suppose you gave them a good clean; then hung a heavy garbage bag inside....!

They are the drum type with the removable lid. They are only 10 bucks each and he has 800 of them lol. I was thinking about trying 3 of them.

You can actually get specifically made and sanitized food grade liners for them. They look like a big, thick plastic bag.
Re: Used 35 gallon drums
I got some hdpe 30l drums that had had trichlor pool tablets in them, tried all sorts of stuff to no avail to get rid of the chlorine smell, gave up on them for brewing and found other uses for some of them, then recently i used one to empty some dunder into, hot from the still, smell was gone after using it that way twice.
Spewing, left them out in the yard cause they were a bit useless and now they have had a bit much UV
But the moral of the story is, dunder can clean many things

Best way to get soap out was fill barrel with laundry and water, then agitate. Took 2 loads to clear it out but works great now.
