Apple flavored Deer Corn

Post by Kegg_jam »

My local Walmart has a pallet of this Deer Corn selling for under 7 bucks a bag, 50 lbs maybe... not sure, I wasn't interested at the time.

Anyway it says apple flavored.

Anybody tried to mash that? Worth $7 and a trip back to that hell hole?

Nope, not me.

Well, $7 USD is good for 50# of corn, but I haven't a clue how much the trip back to Walmart costs you. If you want to mitigate the transportation cost, buy 3 or 4 bags. It'll reduce the cost per pound to drive to town & back.

As for the flavor (apple) in corn, I can't see how that would adversely affect your final product. I guess you'll just have to try it and see for yourself.

Personally, I'm not sold on the idea of apple-flavored corn but I might try some if it's all natural. If the apple flavoring is artificial ... then no way. What's the list of ingredients say ?

If it's the stuff I'm thinking it has a flavor/scent additive that looks like sawdust. I believe that it's made by moultrie try googling"moultrie apple flavor corn additive" I got a list of results. Maybe the ingredients are listed on their site

Umm, artificial flavors and two listed toxins I would vote, no.

Aflatoxin appears to be highly toxic from wikipedia: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aflatoxin" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;" rel="nofollow
-----------
The National Corn growers Association website http://www.ncga.com/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;" rel="nofollow

What is Mycotoxin, Aflatoxin, Fumonisin:
The two primary mycotoxins affecting corn are Aflatoxin and Fumonisin.
Aflatoxin is produced by the Aspergillus family of molds and is most prevalent in corn, cotton, peanuts and tree nuts. Fungus growth can continue in storage under certain environmental conditions. Aflatoxin can be caused by several vectors, but is most commonly related to drought-stressed corn followed by periods of high humidity. Aflatoxin more commonly occurs in southern states.
Fumonisin is produced by the Fusarium family of molds, similar to Fusarium Ear Rot. Fumonisin is highly toxic to some species, especially horses.

I'm no expert so please correct me if I'm wrong, but I think Less than 20 parts per billion is within FDA guidelines.

Lol.

True. Probably turn out shitty anyway.

The thing is though, lots of us buying animal feed grains there is always a possibility of some toxic mold or some shit growing during storage.

Edit: probably going to end up feeding some deer today...

Then again, maybe it's not so easy to find corn as it is around my parts.
I can't drive 10 miles without passing opportunities to pick up 50# sacks of freshly shelled field corn. I kinda take it for granted.

But I would be hesitant to ingest anything that isn't fit for domestic rabbits.
